I Started Poultry with ₦200k: Here's My Full Breakdown + Profit After 8 Weeks [Benin City 2026]*

*Intro*

I’m Matthew, a poultry farmer here in Benin City, Edo State.

Last 2 months I decided to start small with ₦200,000 because feed price was scaring me.

A lot of people asked me: "Matthew, did you make profit? Was it worth it?"

In this post I’ll show you the exact breakdown of how I spent the ₦200k, the challenges I faced, and how much profit I made after 8 weeks selling broilers. No theory. Just real numbers.

*1. My ₦200,000 Breakdown - 100 Broilers*

Item Quantity Amount (₦)

**Day Old Chicks** 100 broilers @₦800 ₦80,000

**Starter Feed** 4 bags @₦18,000 ₦72,000

**Finisher Feed** 3 bags @₦17,500 ₦52,500

**Drugs + Vaccines + Sawdust** - ₦15,500

**Total Spent** **₦220,000**

_Note: I went ₦20k over budget because feed increased in week 4. That’s farming for you._

*2. The 3 Biggest Challenges I Faced*

1.  *Heat*: Benin weather was too hot in week 3. I lost 4 chicks. Solution: More ventilation + cold water morning/evening.

2.  *Feed Cost*: Price jumped ₦1,500 per bag mid-way. Solution: I started buying 2 bags at once to save transport.

3.  *Light*: Generator fuel was eating money. Solution: I used solar fan at night.

*3. Sales + Profit After 8 Weeks*

Out of 100, 94 survived and reached 2.2kg - 2.5kg average.

I sold at ₦5,500 per bird to customers and market women.

*Total Sales*: 94 x ₦5,500 = *₦517,000*

*Total Cost*: *₦220,000*

*Gross Profit*: *₦297,000* in 8 weeks

After removing transport and labour, my *net profit was around ₦250,000*.

*4. 3 Lessons I Learned as a Beginner*

1.  *Start small*: 100 birds is manageable. Don’t jump to 500.

2.  *Track everything*: Write down every naira you spend.

3.  *Have buyers before week 8*: I posted on WhatsApp in week 6 and sold out in 3 days.

*Conclusion*

Yes, ₦200k poultry is still possible in Nigeria 2026. But you must manage feed and mortality.

My next goal is to start with 200 birds and use the profit to buy feed in bulk.

*Question for you:*

Are you thinking of starting poultry this year? What’s stopping you — capital, feed, or knowledge?

Drop it in the comments and I’ll reply.

Don’t forget to share this with another farmer 🙏
